Carolina Investment Association
About Us
The Carolina Investment Association (CIA) is a student organization designed to get students acquainted with investing in capital markets while gaining real-world experience using not only classroom concepts but also the insights of investment professionals. Students in the Carolina Investment Association learn various valuation techniques such as relative and comparative valuation in order to analyze the performance and competitive positioning of a company.
The main focus of the CIA is to groom student analysts to work in the Carolina Fund, a student-managed investment fund. The Carolina Fund is broken up into 3 geographic groups: Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and APAC (Asia Pacific). Americas Group is comprised of 10 sectors of the S&P 500, with an Associate, Senior Analyst, Analyst, and Junior Analyst per sector. The Carolina Fund gives students the opportunity to sharpen the skills they learned in their coursework and in the CIA and allow them to leave school with valuable experience. Ultimately, the purpose of both the CIA and the Carolina Fund is to bridge the gap between classroom and the real world.
